BREAKING: Ifeanyi Ubah Defects To APC From YPP

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Thursday, condemned the deadly attack on the convoy of the lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Naija News recalls that unknown gunmen attacked the Young Peoples Party (YPP) chieftain on Sunday along the Enugwu-Ukwu road, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The assailants ambushed Ubah’s convoy and opened fire on his cars but the senator managed to escape the attack unhurt. Some police operatives and aides of the lawmaker were killed in the attack.

Reacting to the attack in a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB distanced itself from the deadly attack, saying that any attempt to link the group to the incident is wickedness.

The outlawed group described the attack as barbaric, shocking and unwarranted, stressing that the attack was too painful and strange to Ndigbo and has never happened before in the history of Igboland.

IPOB has vowed to expose the people behind the deadly attack, saying that it is on the trail of the perpetrators and will soon make their identities known.

The statement read: “The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, has condemned in strong terms, the barbaric and wicked attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and other individuals in Enugu Ukwu in Njilkoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, which was said to have claimed the lives of over three Policemen and three civilians.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has criticised the recent attack on the convoy of the Anambra lawmaker.

In a statement issued on Wednesday through his spokesman, Garba Shehu, President Buhari described the event as unfortunate.

The Nigerian leader sympathized with the families of those killed in the attack, noting that his government is deeply concerned about the activities of armed groups in the region and in other parts of the country.

The statement said: ”We are closely monitoring the situation and waiting for further details on the response to the worrisome situation by the police, the military and other security agencies.

“The nation has lost four brave policemen and other aides of the Senator.

“On behalf of the government and the people, I pay homage to these security men and the aides who were brutally murdered.

”Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this difficult time.

Buhari prayed to God to give succour to the bereaved families and quick recovery of the Senator and all those that were injured in the attack.

He also prayed for the early return of peace and security in Anambra and all other areas.
