President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the recent attack on the convoy of a 9th national assembly lawmaker, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah.

Naija News reports that unknown gunmen attacked the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District on Sunday along Enugwu-Ukwu road in Anambra State.

It was gathered that the assailants ambushed the lawmaker’s convoy and opened fire on his cars in an attempt to get a hit on Ubah but the senator managed to escape the attack despite his car being riddled with bullets.

Some police operatives and aides of the lawmaker were killed in the attack.

Reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 14 through his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, President Buhari described the event as unfortunate.

The Nigerian leader sympathized with the families of those killed in the attack, noting that his government is deeply concerned about the activities of armed groups in the region and in other parts of the country.

The statement said: ”We are closely monitoring the situation and waiting for further details on the response to the worrisome situation by the police, the military and other security agencies.

“The nation has lost four brave policemen and other aides of the Senator.

“On behalf of the government and the people, I pay homage to these security men and the aides who were brutally murdered.

”Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this difficult time.”

Buhari prayed to God to give succour to the bereaved families and quick recovery of the Senator and all those that were injured in the attack.

He also prayed for the early return of peace and security in Anambra and all other areas.
