The PUNCH: The Christian Association of Nigeria says it will go ahead with its nationwide protests against the lynching of Deborah Yakubu, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was stoned to death and burnt for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.
The Guardian: With the presidential, governorship and National Assembly primaries of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) close by, the intense intrigues and political maneuverings by the parties have pushed the opposition PDP away from the Eagle Square to the MKO Abiola Stadium on the outskirts of the Abuja City Centre. The PDP presidential primary is scheduled for May 28.
The Nation: Governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be elected on Friday as the ruling party begins the process that will culminate in the emergence of its presidential candidate on June 1.
Daily Trust: Twenty nine people were killed yesterday in two major disasters in Kaduna and Kano states. The first incident claimed 20 passengers who were killed in a road accident on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway when the bus they were travelling in crashed into a stationary BUA Cement trailer around 5 a.m.
Daily Independent: If the move by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to float own insurance company finally receives the National Insurance Commission’s (NAICOM) nod, private insurers who have been providing insurance services to the Force would have to look elsewhere for business to augment the shortfall.
