NDLEA moves against cultivation of Indian hemp

A senior secondary student of Ajika Secondary School, Oriyu Ganiyu Abueda, has been caught smoking Indian hemp with some students on the school premises.

Abueda while confessing to the act, claimed that he has been in the habit of smoking Indian hemp since he was in junior secondary school 1.

The student revealed this when he was questioned by teachers after he was caught in the act with other students.

It was gathered that the school authority caught nine students smoking Indian hemp on the school’s premises.

Abueda while confessing noted that his mother’s younger brother, Malik Saheed, who hails from Ijbata, Ile baale Agbe, introduced him to smoking when he stayed with him in Lagos for a while.

He further stated that the other eight students contributed money to buy the Indian Hemp somewhere around Alalubosa, Oyo State.

According to Abueda, he sometimes leaves class during school hours to smoke inside the toilet with his friends.

He said: “We are about eight to 10 students that buy and smoke this drug.

“There are others who come to buy this don’t know their names but I can recognise them.”

The SS1 student noted that both of his parents are not always around, so they have no knowledge about him smoking.

When asked if he knows the effect of the drug he said, “It doesn’t do anything good to me neither do I know the effects.

“I just smoke for the fun of it.”
