Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the declaration by the Nigerian Army that its troops have defeated the Boko Haram insurgents and taken complete control of the Sambisa forest.

He opined that with the declaration by the Army, there may not be need to approve the withdrawal of $1bn from the excess crude account as earlier been proposed.

“Now that the Military authorities have revealed that the army has completely defeated Boko Haram insurgents in the country, is there still any need for anyone to canvass argument in support of the FG plan to spend $1bn (N370bn) from the Excess Crude Account?” Fayose wrote on his official Twitter page.

Recall the theatre commander, operation lafiya dole of the Nigerian Army, Major Gen Rogers Nicholas had while inaugurating the Nigeria-Cameroon Military Joint Mission on Saturday in Maiduguri, declared that the troops have taken over the Sambisa forest and dislodged the Boko Haram insurgents.

“My soldiers are in the heart of Boko Haram enclave that is Camp Zairo, the gallant troops have taken total control of Sambisa Forest.

“We have broken the heart and soul of Shekau’s group, taking over the camp and its environs.

“They are on the run and we are pursuing them to wherever they go. This time around there is no place for escape anywhere.

“We had earlier asked those of them that want to surrender to do so and we are still asking them to come out and surrender otherwise they are going to meet it the hard way.”
