House of Reps holds public hearing on ceding of waterways

The House of Representatives has commenced a public hearing on the ceding of the nation’s waterways to some foreign companies.

The House of Representatives Committee on Public petitions is investigating the planned $195m concession of Nigeria’s waterways to foreign companies.

During the probe, the committee plans to interrogate the Nigeria Navy, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Federal Ministry of Transportation.

Among the attendees at today’s hearing was the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

However, the hearing was adjourned after the committee was notified that the Navy had not received its invitation and was not prepared to respond to questions.
