‘God When In Nigeria?’ – Nigerians React As Court Sentenced South Korea’s Ex-President To Prison

Nigerians have taken to the social media to ask funny questions after former South Korean President, Lee Myung-bak was sentenced to seventeen years imprisonment over alleged corruptions.

Naija News understands that the 17-year jail term was handed to Lee on Thursday, October 29 by Seoul court over bribery and corruption charges, making it his second time in jail.

It could be recalled that Mr Lee’s successor, Park Geun-hye was as well impeached and ousted on charges of bribery and abuse of power. He was in 2018 handed a 25 years jail term by a court, Naija News reports.

Lee had served as South Korea president between 2008 to 2013 but was arrested later on bribery and embezzlement charges. He was successfully convicted in lower courts but has been out on bail in recent months while waiting for the Supreme Court’s final say on his case, which he had appealed, the New York Times reports.

Reacting to Lee’s jail sentence, some Nigerians took to the social media, Twitter precisely to ask when such actions would be taken on former and current Nigerian political office holders who have embezzled public funds while in office.

“God when will this happen in Nigeria… We have a lot of them here as governors, legislators, former presidents, directors, army generals, judges, chairmen… They are just too much here.”, asked a Twitter user with the username [@NurseDammy].

He added, “God please consider the ones in Nigeria too…”

Another netizen [@kingzane_2020], encouraged that the same law that allows for a corrupt president to be sentenced to prison in South Korea should be imbibed in Nigeria. He tweeted; “I wish Nigeria can do copy n paste of this law only then can we have a corruption less country But sweet mouth no go let them.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to the rescue operation of an American citizen by the US Navy SEAL Team 6

It was gathered that the American, Philip Walton, 27, was abducted by unknown gunmen from his farm in Massalata, the southern Niger Republic close to the border with Nigeria, and held for ransom by his abductors.

The kidnappers moved him to Nigeria from where he was rescued on Saturday by the US special forces in a daring raid before he could be sold or used for any potential negotiations, officials told Fox News.

PDP while reacting to the development, said that the swift operation by the United States to rescue her citizen held hostage by bandits on Nigerian soil has further confirmed that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government can neither secure the territorial integrity of the nation nor arrest the wave of insecurity ravaging the country under its watch, Naija News reports.
