Nigerian Army commences deradicalisation programme on IPOB members

Following the conclusion of Operation Python Dance II in the South East, the Nigerian Army has revealed that it would soon commence deradicalisation programme for members of the recently proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The deradicalisation initiative was disclosed by the Director, Nigerian Army Civil-Military Affairs, Brigadier Gen. Solomon Kumapaye,on Tuesday in Abuja, while visiting the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari.

The Army Chief stated that the Nigerian Army’s deradicalisation programme was producing good results in the North-East, noting that similar programme is ongoing for Boko Haram ex-members.

He said the programme was initiated to drive the non-kinetic aspects of warfare and safeguard the rights of civilians during military operations.

Speaking on how the public can get more information, Kumapaye noted that there is an active toll-free Short Code: 193through which Nigerians can reach his office.

He also assured there would be “prompt response on enquiries our work or complaints on the conduct of our personnel”.

Also speaking,  the NOA Director, Abari, applauded the Nigerian Army for setting up a civil rights office in accordance with global best practices. He promised that his agency would deliver the sensitisation and counter-narrative materials to Borno and Gombe states, through the Operation Lafiya Dole and Safe Corridor of the army.
