INEC To Deploy Anti-Graft Agencies Against Voter Buyers In Kogi, Bayelsa States

The Independent National Electoral Commission has revealed that anti-graft agencies have been deployed ahead of the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa State to track down vote buyers and sellers during the election.

The electoral body noted that the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission was not meant to intimidate voters during the electoral process.

The development was revealed by the INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Osaze Oluwole-Uzzi while reacting to the roles played by the anti-graft agencies and if it will not scare voters.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, revealed that EFCC and ICPC would be deployed during the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa state to arrest vote buyers.

Oluwole-Uzzi said, “If EFCC comes to your house, will you be bothered? Do you have N35m in your bank account? So, you don’t have anything to worry about. It is people who are politically-exposed that should be bothered.”

“It is people who either have skeletons in their cupboards or who have had some kinds of dealings or involved in money laundering or unexplained money. We are going to collaborate with the EFCC and the ICPC.”
