1. President Buhari Nominates CBN Governor, Emefiele For Second Term

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Godwin Emefiele for a second term as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Naija News understands.

According to sources at the presidency, the letter for the tenure renewal was signed by Buhari on Wednesday and has now been sent to the Senate.

2. Adeleke vs Oyetola: Appeal Court Confirms Oyetola As Osun State Governor

The Court of Appeal has delivered judgement in favour of Gboyega Oyetola in the matter concerning the outcome of the 2018 Osun State Governorship election.

Naija News reports that Justice Hannatu Sankey, while delivering the lead judgement on Thursday, set aside the entire proceedings of the Tribunal which gave victory to Sen. Adeleke because of its “faulty composition”.

3. Senate Presidency: Why Buhari Won’t Ask Me To Step Down – Ndume

One of the contenders for the Senate president’s seat, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has said that he believes President Muhammadu Buhari will not ask him to step down for anybody in the contest.

Ndume said the president believed in the democratic process and would not interfere in the process of electing leaders of the National Assembly.

4. Again, Buhari Meets Service Chiefs, Others (See Why)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja received briefing from service chiefs including the acting Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu and heads of other security agencies.

Naija News understands that the Thursday’s meeting with the service chiefs comes after the President had earlier met with the security chiefs and heads of security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Tuesday.

5. Jigawa Assembly Impeach Speaker, Other Principal Officers

Report reaching Naija News suggests that the Jigawa state House of Assembly has impeached the speaker of the house, Honourable Isah Idriz Gwaram.

Naija News learnt that the legislature returned the former speaker impeached in 2017, Honourable Idris Garba Kareka as the new speaker.

6. Osun Gov’ship Election: Adeleke Speaks On Appeal Court Ruling

The PDP governorship candidate for Osun 2018 Governorship Election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has said he had instructed his counsels to challenge the appeal court judgement which upheld Gov. Gboyega Oyetola’s election at the Supreme court.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, the lawmaker said he received the appeal court judgement with dissatisfaction.

7. Extra Judicial Killings: IGP Adamu Warns Erring Police Operatives

Acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed has charged all officers-in-charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squads (SARS), and the Anti-Kidnapping Squads across the 36 States of the country and the FCT to recall that their sole responsibility is to make the country safe for all citizens

8. National Assembly Leaders Will Emerge By Secret Ballot – Gaya

Presiding officers of the 9th National Assembly may be elected through a secret ballot, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC-Kano South) has hinted.

The lawmaker was reacting to calls for the open ballot system, by some interest groups within and outside the National Assembly.

9. Appeal Court To Deliver Judgement On Onnoghen Today

The appeal court is set to deliver judgment on the appeal filed by Walter Onnoghen, removed Chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), on Friday.

The announcement was contained in a short statement issued by Sa’adatu Musa Kachalla, spokesperson of the court, on Thursday.

10. Kano: Emir Sanusi Gets International Appointment

The UN has appointed the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, as a member of the new class of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocates.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres made the announcement through his spokesman, Mr Farhan Haq, at a news conference in New York on Thursday.
