The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Inter Lagos ₦5.25 million and deducted three points and three goals from the club following attacks on match officials after their 1-1 draw with Katsina United on Sunday, October 4.
The league body announced the sanctions on Monday, October 5, 2026, after reviewing incidents from the Matchday 7 fixture in Lagos. The NPFL said Inter Lagos failed to provide adequate and effective security, allowing unauthorised persons to enter restricted areas and attack match officials as they left the dressing room for their vehicle.
The league also accused the club of failing to ensure proper conduct among their officials and supporters, resulting in the match officials being held for more than an hour after the game.
“Inter Lagos officials in company of some of their supporters, intimidated, harassed & verbally abused the match officials, thereby engaging in acts capable of bringing the game to disrepute,” the NPFL stated.
According to the league, the club’s team manager and some supporters assaulted the officials, leaving the first assistant referee with a facial injury and damaged or missing personal belongings, including his mobile phone.
The NPFL imposed a ₦2 million fine for inadequate security, another ₦1 million for holding the officials for more than an hour and ₦2 million for the assault. It also ordered the club to pay ₦250,000 in compensation to the affected assistant referee for his medical treatment and damaged or lost belongings.
In addition, Inter Lagos will lose three points and three goals from their accumulated totals for assaulting and injuring the first assistant referee.
The club has 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions. Inter Lagos currently sit 19th in the NPFL table with five points from seven matches.
