Agüero Urges Atlético Madrid To Sell Unhappy Julián Álvarez
Former Argentina striker Sergio Agüero has urged Atlético Madrid to part ways with Julián Álvarez, insisting that keeping a dissatisfied player would only create problems for the club.
Álvarez recently made his desire to leave Atlético public, declaring that a transfer would be the best outcome for all parties involved. His comments have intensified speculation over a possible move to FC Barcelona.
Agüero believes Atlético should not stand in the player’s way and warned that an unhappy footballer can negatively affect the dressing room.
“I can’t hide either. I try to be an honest person. I spoke with the people at the club I needed to speak with. The best thing for everyone is a transfer, and I want to fulfil my dream,” Julián Álvarez said.
Reacting to the striker’s remarks, Agüero told Jijantes FC: “He says he met with the club and decided a transfer is the best option. It’s very difficult. When a player isn’t happy, each club takes their own stance and the player ends up losing out.”
The former Manchester City forward added that Atlético should focus on finding a solution rather than forcing the player to remain.
“If he’s not comfortable, the best thing is to find a solution and sell him. You’re not going to have a player in a bad mood all year round,” he said.
“With that clause, the decision lies with the club. The club will decide whether or not to sell you, and he, to be honest, ended up saying as much, and that’s for the best.”
Agüero also backed Barcelona as the ideal destination for his compatriot, describing Álvarez as a perfect fit for the Catalan club’s style of play.
Atlético Madrid remain reluctant to lose one of their prized assets and have repeatedly pointed to the forward’s hefty release clause as a deterrent to potential buyers.
However, reports indicate that Álvarez feels disappointed and frustrated after allegedly being assured he would be allowed to leave if Barcelona tabled an offer worth between €90 million and €100 million.
