‘Better Shut Your Mouth’ – Angela Okorie Blasts Critics Over Burnt Dress Worn To Alexx Ekubo’s Burial
Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, has fired back at critics over her decision to burn the white dress she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.
Naija News recalls that Ekubo was laid to rest last week in his hometown, Aziukwubwo Ujori village, Arochukwu, Abia State, after his demise on May 11 following a battle with stage four kidney cancer.
In a post shared on her Instagram story, Okorie said her godmother advised her not to keep clothes worn to a burial.
She wrote, “This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My Godmother said it is not good to keep the clothes you wore to a burial around you; you should burn them.
“So family and friends, take note. I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen. Chaiii.”
The post quickly drew backlash from social media users, with many netizens interpreting Angela Okorie’s action as insensitive and disrespectful to the family.
In a swift rejoinder, the thespian noted that it is her right to follow personal customs without public scrutiny and urged critics to stop misinterpreting her statement.
She wrote, “Oh well my those who knows, knows my message out here is not to stire up whatever cos I know you idiots will interpret it wrongly. But to whom it may concern, anyway I gave the outfit I wore to the burial to my aunt in Owerri to burn for me. I didn’t even go to Lagos with it. And this information is to whom it may concern.
“Some of you are talking trash, you had better shut your mouth and understand the family and loved ones are still grieving, be careful what you say out there. Ndi iberibe.”
