Oyo ADC Stakeholders Reject Primary Result, Demand Ilaka’s Declaration As Gov Candidate
Chieftains and stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State have rejected the result of the recently conducted primary elections presented by a faction of the party, insisting that it did not reflect what transpired during the governorship primary.
The party leaders demanded the declaration of Chief Oyebisi Ilaka as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that the stakeholders made the demand in a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Ibadan on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
According to them, consultations and reports from party structures across the state showed that Ilaka enjoyed overwhelming support among party members.
They described the former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde and Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom as the preferred choice of party faithful due to his political experience, grassroots appeal, acceptability and leadership qualities.
The aggrieved ADC members claimed that Ilaka won in 29 out of the 33 local government areas during the exercise.
They alleged that the officially declared outcome contradicted reports received from local government executives, youth leaders, women leaders, ward officers and other party stakeholders who participated in the process.
The communiqué stated, “The announced result does not represent the genuine outcome of the gubernatorial primary election conducted in Oyo State.
“The outcome is inconsistent with the democratic principles, transparency, fairness, and internal party democracy which the ADC has consistently preached and promised Nigerians.”
The stakeholders said the outcome, if allowed to stand, could create distrust among members and weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
The group called on the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee of the ADC to immediately review the result of the primary election.
They also urged the national leadership of the party to set up an independent panel to investigate complaints arising from the exercise.
According to them, such a panel should hear testimonies from stakeholders, party executives and members across the affected local government areas.
The stakeholders maintained that the majority of ADC members in Oyo State recognise Ilaka as the rightful winner of the primary election.
They also promised to present evidence before any appeal, reconciliation or investigative panel established by the national leadership.
The stakeholders warned that failure to address the grievances raised by party members could affect grassroots confidence in the ADC.
They said correcting what they described as an injustice would strengthen unity, confidence and the party’s electoral fortunes in Oyo State.
The communiqué urged the party leadership to uphold justice, fairness and the supremacy of the ADC constitution.
It added that the national leadership should use the opportunity to prove that the ADC is different from other political parties by standing on the side of truth, justice and democratic principles.
Ilaka Calls For Fairness
Reacting to the development, Chief Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka thanked party members and supporters across Oyo State for standing by him.
He commended them for remaining committed to democracy, fairness and the progress of the party.
Ilaka expressed confidence that the national leadership of the ADC would carefully review the concerns raised by stakeholders and take a decision that would protect the interests of the party and democracy.
He said, “Our commitment remains the progress of the ADC and the future of Oyo State. I believe the party leadership will do what is right and ensure fairness for all.”
