Why I Left APC For NDC – Senator Omo-Agege
Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has explained why he left the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party structure in Delta State was taken over following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Naija News reports that Omo-Agege made the claim during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
The former Delta State governorship candidate alleged that loyal APC members who worked for the party during the 2023 elections were pushed aside during recent congresses.
He said the restructuring of the party in the state did not reflect fairness to long-standing members.
“My decision to leave the APC was not taken lightly. After deep reflection and wide consultations, I found that the party structure in Delta State had been completely taken over following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” he said.
“The loyal members who laboured for the party in 2023 were pushed aside during the recent congresses.”
Omo-Agege said he has now chosen a new political direction under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
He declared support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying his loyalty now belongs to his new party platform.
“In the NDC, I now align with Peter Obi because I believe he represents a people-first leadership that Nigeria urgently needs,” he stated.
He added that he supported former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu while in the APC because his loyalty has always followed his party.
“Now that I am in the NDC, my loyalty is to my party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi,” he said.
Omo-Agege also dismissed reports that he lost the NDC senatorial ticket in Delta Central.
He insisted that he won across all eight local government areas in the district, adding that the party had not officially released or ratified the results.
He described contrary reports as false and politically motivated.
The former Deputy Senate President criticised the Oborevwori administration, alleging that more than ₦3tn had accrued to Delta State in the last three years without corresponding development.
He also claimed that about ₦750 billion remained idle in government accounts while residents continued to suffer from poverty, unemployment, insecurity and poor infrastructure.
Speaking on the Delta governorship race, Omo-Agege expressed support for the NDC candidate, whom he described as experienced, articulate and capable of delivering good governance.
He said leadership should be measured by performance and the proper use of public funds, not titles.
