2027: Gombe PDP, ADC, LP Stakeholders Defect To APC
A coalition of stakeholders from opposition political parties in Gombe State has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party, declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and the governorship aspiration of Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna.
The group said its decision followed a review of the outcome of primary elections conducted by their former political parties.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Prof Sulaiman Dankande, Nura Abba, Abdullah Amtai, Dedan Mela and Murtala Usman Dukku said members had resolved to join the APC and work for Gwamna’s emergence as governor in 2027.
Naija News understands that the defectors were formally received into the APC by the party chairman in Gombe Local Government Area, Idris Saleh.
Saleh presented them with APC membership cards and welcomed them into the ruling party.
The coalition members said their movement to the APC was based on political conviction and the need to align with a platform they believed could better serve the interests of the state.
They also pledged to work for the success of Tinubu and Gwamna in the next general elections.
The group said the outcome of the primary elections in their former parties influenced their decision to seek a new political platform.
According to them, the development made it necessary to reassess their political direction ahead of 2027.
They said that after wide consultations among their members and supporters, they agreed to join the APC and support its candidates at both the national and state levels.
The defection is expected to add to the wave of political movements already taking place in Gombe State as parties prepare for the next election cycle.
Meanwhile, a former National Youth Leader of the APC, Sadiq Abubakar, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State.
Abubakar announced his emergence shortly after winning the party’s governorship primary election.
His victory comes weeks after he resigned from the APC, citing economic hardship and dissatisfaction with the policies of the ruling party.
Abubakar said his decision to join the NDC was driven by his desire to be part of a political platform that guarantees transparent and credible primary elections.
He said the party had given him an opportunity to pursue his political ambition and offer service to the people of Gombe State.
According to him, his movement to the NDC was also part of his commitment to contribute to the political development of the state.
