Ex-APC Youth Leader Wins Gombe NDC Governorship Ticket

A former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Sadiq Abubakar, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Gombe State.

Naija News reports that Abubakar was affirmed as the party’s candidate during the NDC governorship primary held in Gombe.

He had earlier defected from the APC, citing hardship faced by Nigerians as a result of what he described as difficult policies and programmes of the ruling party.

Speaking with journalists after the primary, Abubakar thanked the NDC leadership, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.

He said his emergence confirmed his earlier claim that the NDC was a party where members were treated fairly and equally.

“Just as I had testified when I defected to the NDC that this is a political party where members are treated fairly and equally. It is a party where members mandates are not stolen or suppressed for favoured individuals and this attestation has manifested now,” he said.

The former APC youth leader said his move to the NDC was driven by the desire to participate in a fair political process and continue serving the people with strength and integrity.

He added that the party had demonstrated commitment to internal democracy through the conduct of its primary.
