Nobody Asked Me To Be Vice President — Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has said nobody has asked him to become running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News reports that Amaechi stated this during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, where he also spoke about the outcome of the ADC presidential primary.
The former Rivers State governor had earlier rejected the result of the primary, alleging that the figures were concocted.
Amaechi insisted that he stood by his criticism of the exercise but said he remained a member of the party.
“I stand by what I said about ‘concocted results,’ but I am still a member of ADC,” he said.
He dismissed suggestions that he may have been approached to serve as Atiku’s running mate.
“I’m not joking, no one has ever asked me to be vice president because they know what my reaction would be,” Amaechi said.
Atiku Wins ADC Ticket
Atiku was declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary after polling 1,855,787 votes. Amaechi came second with 509,397 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen secured 180,903 votes.
Following the announcement, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the outcome of the primary.
Atiku later met with Amaechi at his Abuja residence on Thursday.
In a post on 𝕏, Atiku said they had deep and honest discussions about the state of the country.
He said the talks focused on economic hardship, insecurity and the responsibility of patriotic Nigerians to keep searching for solutions to rescue the country from drift and despair.
