Premier League Matchday 36 Fixtures: Arsenal Title Push Resumes, Spurs Fight On
Arsenal head into the weekend in command of the Premier League title race and victory away to West Ham United could leave the Gunners on the brink of a first English crown in 22 years.
The momentum has swung back towards Arsenal after a brief wobble reopened the door for Manchester City. That challenge now looks less threatening following City’s costly 3-3 draw at Everton, a result that may yet define the closing weeks of the season. Arsenal’s recent run, coupled with their Champions League progress, has restored the belief that the title is finally within reach.
A 1-0 midweek win over Atlético Madrid at the Emirates Stadium secured a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, adding to the sense of momentum. Domestically, Arsenal remain five points clear of City, who still hold a game in hand, and know wins against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace would almost certainly seal the title.
Yet the trip to the London Stadium is not without risk. West Ham are fighting for survival and desperation often sharpens performances at this stage of the season. Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has already warned against premature celebrations, describing the fixture as a potential stumbling block.
At the opposite end of the table, Tottenham Hotspur have given themselves hope of survival under new manager Roberto De Zerbi. Seven points from three matches have steadied a campaign that had drifted badly under Igor Tudor.
Spurs remain 17th, one point above West Ham, and a home match against Leeds United has taken on huge significance.
De Zerbi has urged caution despite the upturn in results, insisting memories of the team’s earlier struggles must remain fresh.
Tottenham still face Chelsea and Everton in their final fixtures, meaning survival is far from assured. Leeds, meanwhile, know victory would confirm their own Premier League safety.
Further up the table, Chelsea are searching for a late-season response after a dramatic collapse in league form. Six consecutive defeats have ended hopes of Champions League qualification and left the club facing an uncomfortable finish to the campaign under interim manager Calum McFarlane.
Chelsea have scored only once in their last six league matches and now face a difficult trip to Liverpool, whose side under Arne Slot are closing in on a Champions League place. An FA Cup final against Manchester City still offers the chance to salvage silverware, but the league campaign has unravelled at a critical moment.
