Lookman Targets Breakthrough In Atlético Vs Arsenal UCL Semi-final Decider

Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman will attempt to end his barren run against Arsenal when Atlético Madrid head to London for Tuesday’s decisive second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.

The tie stands delicately poised at 1-1 after the first meeting in Spain, with a place in the Budapest final on May 30 up for grabs against either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.

Lookman impressed in the first leg despite failing to register a goal or assist in six previous encounters with Arsenal. The Nigerian completed 95 per cent of his passes in the opposition half, produced four shots with two on target and tracked back tirelessly, drawing praise for a complete display.

Head coach Diego Simeone singled out the forward’s work rate and growing tactical discipline. “I loved Lookman’s game; we’re getting an important player to understand that his defensive work helps us,” Simeone said.

The Argentine also warned of the challenge awaiting his side. “You saw the five of their players who came on… they’re very good and have more than enough talent to compete,” he added. “They’ve won 10 Champions League matches, drawn three, and haven’t lost. We’re playing against a fantastic team.”

Former Atalanta teammate Michel Adopo believes the winger will deliver when it matters most. “After the triumph, I remember that Ademola himself didn’t understand the importance of his performance. Atletico is an amazing opportunity for Ademola,” he said.
“Finally, he is at a giant club. I actually believe he will score against Arsenal.”

Atlético travel to the Emirates Stadium buoyed by a league win over Valencia, although frustration lingered from the first leg. Viktor Gyökeres converted a penalty after a defensive lapse before Julián Alvarez equalised from the spot following a handball by Ben White.

Simeone rotated heavily at the weekend, preserving key starters for the London showdown.
