Mikel, Evra Mock Arsenal After Champions League Final Heartbreak

Nigerian football legend John Obi Mikel has piled further misery on Arsenal following their UEFA Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, backing Chelsea’s social media jibe and insisting the Gunners remain far from matching their London rivals’ European pedigree.

Chelsea’s official Instagram account appeared to take aim at Arsenal less than 24 hours after the Gunners lost on penalties to PSG in Budapest.

The Blues shared a picture of the Champions League trophy at Stamford Bridge with the caption: “Come and visit London’s home of trophies.”

Asked about the post, Mikel offered a firm endorsement.

“Amazing post. This trophy, wow, amazing trophy. Arsenal cannot touch this trophy. They cannot touch it. We are the team,” he said.

The former Chelsea midfielder also dismissed any suggestion that Arsenal deserved sympathy after their painful defeat.

“Never say sorry to Arsenal. We are the only team in London that have won the Champions League. It is amazing to see Arsenal do what they do best, they always find a way to bottle it, and they did.”

Mikel continued his criticism by targeting Arsenal supporters while expressing confidence that Chelsea will return stronger next season.

“Arsenal fans are the worst fans, delusional. But Chelsea, we are the best. We have had a poor season, but next season we are going to be back,” he added.

Mikel Obi, 38, spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge, winning nine major trophies, including the club’s historic UEFA Champions League triumph in 2012.

He played the full 120 minutes in the dramatic final win over Bayern Munich and was also instrumental during Chelsea’s memorable semi-final success against Barcelona. A year later, he added the UEFA Europa League title, becoming one of the few players to win both of Europe’s major club competitions.

Mikel was not the only former Premier League star to mock Arsenal following their latest European disappointment. Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra also joined the chorus of criticism with a social media post aimed at the North London club.

The Frenchman shared a video on 𝕏 featuring the Champions League trophy accompanied by MC Hammer’s hit song U Can’t Touch This. Dancing alongside the trophy, Evra delivered another dig at Arsenal supporters.

“Guys, I was being a gentleman… but some Arsenal fans are getting too comfortable,” he said.

“You finally won the war after 22 years of banter. Now let’s start another 50 years of banter about the Big Ears Cup.”

Evra enjoyed considerable success against Arsenal during his playing career. The former left-back faced the Gunners 21 times, winning 13 matches and suffering only four defeats.

Arsenal’s wait for a first European crown, meanwhile, continues. The North London club have now lost both Champions League finals they have reached, having previously fallen to Barcelona in the 2006 showpiece in Paris.

The Gunners missed two penalties in the shootout against PSG, allowing the French champions to retain the trophy and extending Arsenal’s long search for the one major title that has continued to elude them.
