African Action Congress (AAC) former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has described President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips as diplomatic excursions that offer no benefit to Nigeria.
Naija News reports that Sowore made the remark in an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, while speaking on Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom.
The human rights activist also claimed that Tinubu might be seeing his doctors, stressing that it has been about a month since the President travelled.
He said, “These visits are nothing more than diplomatic excursions. Perhaps the president will also see his doctors; he has not travelled in about a month.
“Beyond the fanfare you are seeing on TV, it’s not bringing anything to Nigeria that Nigeria cannot get or should not have. That’s the point I’m making, and we are just deceiving ourselves all the time by saying this time we travel.”
While describing Tinubu’s foreign trips since assuming office in May 2023 as a waste of resources, Sowore insisted that no results had materialised.
He said, “The cost of these travels is far more at the end, outweighing whatever we come from the so-called investment they claim is going to happen.
“If you have it right, investors will come to your country. You don’t need to travel. Nigeria is just burning fuel in the air with our aircraft.”
Sowore also suggested that Nigerian musicians deliver more economic value from their foreign tours than President Tinubu does from his diplomatic trips.
He added, “Sometimes, some of these our musicians who go and perform in the UK bring more money into the country than when the president travels to the UK or anywhere.”
