David Ombugadu Joins APC After Dumping PDP

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State David Ombugadu has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that the decision comes after he resigned from the PDP.

Ombugadu completed his defection to the ruling party on Tuesday, putting an end to weeks of speculation about his next political step.

He had earlier stepped down from the PDP through a letter dated February 28, 2026, which was addressed to the chairman of Ikka Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

In that letter, he confirmed that his resignation took immediate effect.

The former lawmaker, who served two terms in the House of Representatives, is well known in the state’s political space.

After joining the APC, Ombugadu also made known his intention to contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat in 2027, signaling a new chapter in his political career.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed regret over the resignation of Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu, its former governorship candidate in Nasarawa State.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hajiya Farida Umar, described the exit as a painful moment for the PDP.

She said the party values its shared history with Ombugadu, noting the time, effort, and sacrifices made together during elections and political campaigns.

Umar added that while his departure is difficult, the party continues to rely on its ideology, structure, and loyal supporters rather than any one individual.
