Bayern Munich Opens Contract Talk With Harry Kane As Goals Keep Pouring In

Bayern Munich have confirmed that discussions are ongoing with England captain Harry Kane over a possible contract extension, less than two years after his blockbuster move to the German champions.

Naija News reports that the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, disclosed this on Tuesday, admitting that talks were underway as the striker continues to impress with his goal-scoring exploits in Germany.

Speaking at a Bundesliga event in Frankfurt, Eberl acknowledged that negotiations were at an early stage but stressed that a decision would eventually have to be made.

“We’re talking to Harry, we’re talking,” Eberl said.

“Everyone knows at some point a decision has to be made.”

Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 on a four-year contract reportedly worth an initial €100m (£86.4m), ending a long spell in the Premier League.

Since arriving at the Allianz Arena, Kane has enjoyed a devastating run in front of goal, scoring 119 goals and registering 30 assists in 126 appearances across all competitions.

The 31-year-old has been central to Bayern’s domestic and European campaigns, quickly establishing himself as one of the most lethal forwards in the club’s history.

In October, Kane hinted that he could remain in Germany beyond his current deal, admitting that his long-discussed desire to return to the Premier League had reduced.

He said he “could definitely” see himself staying at Bayern and that thoughts of returning to England had “gone down a little bit”.

Under new manager Vincent Kompany, Kane has been in blistering form this season, scoring 34 goals in 30 matches, including 21 goals in 19 Bundesliga games.

The former Spurs striker is now chasing the long-standing Bundesliga single-season scoring record of 41 goals, set by ex-Bayern forward Robert Lewandowski.

Kane has also played a key role in Bayern’s Champions League campaign, helping the Bavarians secure second place in their group-stage table with one game remaining.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen also played down any urgency surrounding the negotiations, insisting that Kane is settled both on and off the pitch.

“Harry has great confidence in us and he feels comfortable in Munich,” Dreesen said.

“He and his family are settled in. Therefore, we’ve got absolutely no reason to rush.”
