Lewandowski Set To Leave Barcelona, Kane Matches Suarez’s Goal Record
Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, has confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will leave the club at the end of the season after the striker decided to seek a new challenge.
The Poland international recently announced he will walk away from Camp Nou this summer when his contract expires in June, bringing an end to a prolific spell in Spain. Lewandowski has scored 119 goals in 191 appearances for the Catalan giants.
Speaking ahead of Sunday night’s clash with Real Betis, Flick paid tribute to the veteran forward and praised his professionalism and influence in the dressing room.
“It’s been a great chapter for him. For me, it’s been a privilege to work with him because he is a true professional,” Flick told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Real Betis on Sunday night.
“He is a role model, which is why he is still performing at this level. Now, he wants a new challenge, and we respect that.”
Lewandowski’s departure signals the end of a successful era for Barcelona’s attack, with the club expected to reshape its forward line this summer.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane produced a stunning performance in Germany to write his name into the record books.
The Bayern Munich striker scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 Bundesliga win over FC Koln at the Allianz Arena, taking his season tally to 58 goals in all competitions.
According to OptaJoe, Kane’s haul is the highest by a player from Europe’s big five leagues since Luis Suarez scored 59 goals for Barcelona during the 2015-2016 season.
The England captain, who joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, has enjoyed a remarkable campaign. So far this season, Kane has helped the club to win the German Bundesliga and enter the semi-final stage of the Champions League.
He will now turn his attention to the DFB-Pokal final, where Bayern face Stuttgart next weekend.
