Hansi Flick Signs Barcelona Contract Extension After La Liga Triumph
Hansi Flick has agreed to a new contract extension with FC Barcelona that will keep him at the club until 2028, following another successful La Liga campaign.
Naija News reports that Sunday’s win over Real Madrid sealed Barcelona’s 29th La Liga title, Flick’s second league win in as many seasons in charge. The German manager was already under contract for next season and has now agreed a one-year extension, with the option of a further year.
“I’m really happy about this,” Flick said. “They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more.”
Barcelona wrapped up the title with three matches to spare and could still finish the season with 100 points.
“A lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca’s case it’s good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot,” Flick said. “We go to 2028 and then we’ll see if everything is right, and, if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right, I think it’s a good deal.”
The title win came during an emotional weekend for Flick, whose father died shortly before the match. A minute’s silence was observed before kick-off.
Flick replaced Xavi in summer 2024 and delivered immediate silverware, guiding Barcelona to the Copa del Rey in his first season.
Before moving to Spain, Flick coached the Germany national football team after a trophy-laden spell with Bayern Munich. During his time in Bavaria, Bayern won back-to-back Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.
