Liverpool Sign Jeremy Jacquet, Christensen Extends Contract With Barcelona

Liverpool have completed the signing of France Under-21 defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in a deal reportedly worth up to £60 million.

Jeremy Jacquet, a 20-year-old centre-back agreed terms with the Premier League champions in January and has now put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield, with the option of an additional 12 months, subject to international clearance.

Jacquet is expected to join Liverpool’s pre-season preparations despite missing the closing stages of last season after suffering a shoulder injury in February.

“I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here,” Jacquet told Liverpool’s website on Wednesday. “It’s a big dream for me.”

The highly rated defender progressed through Rennes’ academy before making 33 senior appearances for the French club. He also spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Clermont as part of his development.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have secured the future of defender Andreas Christensen after extending his contract until June 2028.

The Spanish champions confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, ensuring the Denmark international remains at Camp Nou for another three years after his previous deal expired at the end of June.

“FC Barcelona and Andreas Christensen have reached an agreement for the extension of the Danish defender’s contract, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2028,” the club said in a statement.

Spanish media reports said the 30-year-old accepted a substantial pay cut to continue his stay with the Catalan side.

Christensen has endured an injury-hit spell since joining Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 but has remained an important member of the squad when fit.

The experienced centre-back played a crucial role in Barcelona’s La Liga title-winning campaign during his debut season and has gone on to make 98 appearances for the club.

During his time in Spain, Christensen has helped Barcelona win three La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey, adding to an impressive list of honours despite recurring fitness setbacks.
