Lookman Salutes Osimhen Partnership After Super Eagles Beat Tunisia In AFCON 2025 Thriller

Ademola Lookman has praised his growing understanding with Victor Osimhen after producing a standout display in Nigeria’s tense 3-2 win over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The dramatic victory in Fez on Saturday confirmed the Super Eagles’ place in the round of 16 and kept them perfect in Group C of AFCON.

Lookman delivered a man of the match performance, scoring once and laying on two goals as Nigeria built a three-goal cushion before surviving a tense late rally from the Carthage Eagles.

Reflecting on the match, the forward stressed that results matter more than flair at this stage of the competition.

“We are pleased with the performance today, three points on board, that is most important. We take the positives and carry on,” Lookman said.

A key talking point was his link-up with Osimhen, which continues to trouble opposing defences. Lookman explained that their chemistry allows him to adjust his role for the good of the side.

“Victor is a good striker and we have a good relationship and make the most of that. Anywhere I can help the team I do,” he said.

“I now play closer to goal, which gives me more chance to hurt the opponent and I am happy with that.”

Nigeria looked firmly in control after racing into a 3-0 lead, but late goals from Montassar Talbi and Ali Abdi gave Tunisia renewed belief and forced the Super Eagles to dig deep in the closing minutes.

Lookman’s imprint on the match was unmistakable. He teed up the opener just before half-time with a teasing cross from the left that Osimhen met with a powerful header.

Early in the second half, another pinpoint Lookman delivery from a corner was nodded home by captain Wilfred Ndidi. The Atalanta man then capped his night in the 66th minute, latching onto a clever Osimhen cut-back and driving a left-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper.

The strike continued Lookman’s impressive AFCON record. He now boasts eight goal contributions, five goals and three assists, across his last nine matches at the tournament, a return unmatched by any player over the last two editions.

The win leaves Nigeria on six points at the top of Group C. They return to action against Uganda in Fez on Tuesday, while Tunisia, on three points, head to Rabat to face Tanzania.
