CAF Denies Free Entry Claims As Super Eagles Prepare For Tunisia Test

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that fans will be allowed into stadiums for free at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speculation had surfaced in recent days that CAF, working alongside the Local Organising Committee, had approved free entry due to low attendance at several venues. While matches involving the host nation have drawn sizeable crowds, other fixtures have struggled to fill the stands, fuelling the rumours.

CAF, however, has made it clear that no such directive exists. According to the continental body, tickets for all matches will continue to be sold as normal right through to the end of the tournament.

The competition continues today with four matches lined up, including a keenly anticipated clash involving the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.

Ahead of the encounter, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has shared his belief that the AFCON now rivals, and even surpasses, some of Europe’s top domestic leagues in quality and intensity.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, the former Mali coach stressed that Africa’s next step lies in the development of its coaches and football structures to match global standards. He also urged greater seriousness in the way the game is managed across the continent.

“We have to create our own identity. For me, this AFCON is better than the league in Europe. This is great,” he said.

Victory for Chelle’s side tonight would see Nigeria move to the top of their group and secure early qualification for the knockout stages, adding extra weight to the showdown with Tunisia.

Nigeria will be looking to key players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Akor Adams to deliver when it matters most.

In their opening match against Tanzania, goals from Semi Ajayi and Lookman sealed the win, even though Osimhen endured a frustrating night in front of goal after missing several clear chances.
