Sunday Oliseh: Morocco Would Have Beaten Brazil With Osimhen, Lookman
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh believes Morocco had enough quality to beat Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and would have done so convincingly if they possessed attackers like Victor Osimhen or Ademola Lookman.
Oliseh made the remark on Sunday via his 𝕏 account after Morocco held five-time world champions Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their Group C clash on Saturday.
Naija News reports that the Atlas Lions delivered another assured performance on the global stage, matching Brazil for long spells and creating several dangerous openings. Their reward came in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari latched onto a through ball from Brahim Diaz before calmly lobbing Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Brazil responded 11 minutes later through Vinicius Junior, who fired a superb volley into the far corner to restore parity in a fiercely contested game.
Reacting to the result, Oliseh applauded Morocco’s organisation and balance across the pitch, insisting they deserved more from the match.
“Impressive performance by this Moroccan side, defensively and offensively well structured. Had this team had ‘Victor Osimhen or Ademola Lookman’ like players versus Brazil, they could have won by 3 goals to 1 at worst,” he wrote.
The former Super Eagles captain also suggested Brazil were fortunate to escape with a point, highlighting the influence of Vinicius and Raphinha.
“Brazil looking deceptive and thank God they had Vinicius Jr and Raphinha. I loved the belief and evolution from the Moroccans,” he added.
Morocco’s draw strengthened belief that the North Africans can build on their historic World Cup achievements after becoming the first African nation to reach a semi-final. They achieved the feat their the 2022 edition of the tournament.
They will now turn their attention to a crucial Group C showdown against Scotland on June 19.
