Iwobi, Chukwueze Light Up Craven Cottage Against Manchester City In 9 Goals Thriller
Nigerian stars, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze produced a pair of standout performances in Fulham’s breathless 5-4 defeat to Manchester City at Craven Cottage.
City arrived in west London chasing another step in their title push and looked set for a comfortable night when Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Tijjani Reijnders doubled the lead, and Phil Foden added two more before a Sander Berge own goal stretched the gap even further.
At 5-1, the contest seemed settled. But Fulham refused to fold, and it was Iwobi and Chukwueze who dragged the match into a different gear. Before their surge, Emile Smith Rowe had already given the home fans a little hope with a tidy finish in first-half stoppage time, but the second half belonged to Nigeria.
Iwobi struck first, guiding in Fulham’s second of the night in the 57th minute. His finish reset the energy in the stadium, and the crowd responded with renewed belief.
Chukwueze then stepped in and lit the place up. Brought on after the interval, he made an immediate impact, scoring in the 72nd minute with a composed strike.
Six minutes later, he added another, a goal that sent the Cottage into a frenzy and reduced City’s lead to a single goal. At 5-4, the noise inside the ground was deafening as Fulham pushed for what would have been one of the most remarkable comebacks in Premier League history.
City spent the final minutes defending deep, clearing anything that came their way while Fulham kept pouring forward. Eight minutes of added time only heightened the tension, and during the frantic spell, Ryan Cherki received the first yellow card of the match in the 94th minute.
