Police Raid Insurgent Camps In Anambra, Recover Arms

The Anambra State Police Command, on Friday, raided some camps belonging to gunmen and insurgents who specialise in attacking police formations in the state.

Naija News reports that the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday.

Ikenga said the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, had ordered the raid to identify and destroy any camp being used by insurgents to launch attacks within the command.

He also revealed that six improvised explosive devices that were already primed for attacks, two walkie-talkies and other items were recovered from the camps.

Ikenga added that the raid on the forests in search of insurgents and their camps is still ongoing to eliminate the “terrorists,” rescuing abducted victims, and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession.

The statement read, “In the hunt for gunmen who attacked two police stations at Awgbu in Orumba North and Neni in Anaocha LGA in the last two weeks, the police-led joint security force was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, to identify and destroy any camp being used by insurgents to launch attacks within the command.

“We had previously destroyed two camps, one in Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA, and the other in Achalla, Awka North LGA.

“On Friday, March 29, 2024, the Joint Security Force raided the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA and found scattered camps of the insurgents. The cowardly criminals fled in the face of the onslaught.

“Six Improvised Explosive Devices already primed for attacks, and two walkie-talkies were recovered from the camps.

“Also recovered were substantial food and grocery supplies. All the camps were subsequently destroyed to deny the insurgent bases for launching attacks.

“Meanwhile, the commissioner of Police sends warm greetings to Ndi Anambra at Easter. He prays that the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, reigns across the length and breadth of the state.

“He wishes to assure Ndi Anambra that the police command under his watch will continue to serve the people selflessly despite the risks involved.

“He urged all citizens to cooperate with the Police to identify hideouts of insurgents seeking to destabilise the state and truncate development.

“He assured them that the police will jealously protect the sources of its information to protect informers from harm.”
