Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has insisted that he and his teammates are determined to avoid losing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Super Eagles will commence their drive to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Recall that Kenneth Omeruo was among the Super Eagles team that failed to qualify for the 2022 edition of the prestigious football festival.

In the final round of the qualification series, Nigeria played a goalless draw away against Ghana and the Black Stars grabbed a 1-1 draw in Abuja to qualify for the Qatar World Cup ahead of the Super Eagles.

To commence their push to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Super Eagles will take on Lesotho at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Afterward, they will fly to Rwanda to take on Zimbabwe at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Ahead of the games, Kenneth Omeruo said the three-time African champions are focused on making it to the 2026 World Cup.

“Most of us in the team still remember how painful it was not to be part of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The memory lingers but then, that is gone. This is a fresh opportunity and we all want to be at the next one”, he said.

“There is always the temptation to over-think how to process the campaign, but it is a long one and we have opted to think and plan for only the match ahead of us. On Thursday, we will play Lesotho. We remember them from our 2021 AFCON qualifiers. After the final whistle on Thursday, we can then start thinking about the next opponents.”
