2024 NNL Season Kicks-Off In Lafia, Nasarawa State

Following several delays, the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League (NNL) season is finally set to begin today at the renovated Lafia City Stadium.

Naija News understands that the Uyo Township Stadium was initially chosen to host the official opening match, but the decision was later made to switch to the Lafia City Stadium.

In this stadium, Nasarawa United, the home team, will face off against Zamfara United in the highly anticipated match of the first week. It is worth noting that Nasarawa United was one of the four NPFL clubs relegated to the lower division at the conclusion of the 2022/2023 season.

Under the guidance of their new coach, Usman Adams, who was recently appointed as the Technical Adviser after serving as an assistant coach for many years, the team, known as the ‘Solid Miners,’ will be looking to make a strong comeback.

Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of the NNL, Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman, has admonished clubs to follow fair play and strictly adhere to the NNL rules and regulations.

“While we apologize for the delay in kick-off, which was necessitated by situations beyond our control, we must warn all clubs against any professional behaviour that can bring the league to disrepute.

“Our matches will be closely monitored as we will be sending Compliant Officers across all venues. We expect the best and a grand opening game. We are working hard to raise the standard,” he noted.

Naija News understands that only the match at the Lafia City Stadium will take place, as all other Week One matches will be played on Saturday, November 18.
