The PUNCH: A peace meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Imo State ended in confusion on Tuesday in Owerri, the state capital, after the INEC National Commissioner representing South-East, Kenneth Ukeagu, ordered journalists to shut down their cameras and other gadgets.
The Guardian: Findings by The Guardian show that Houses of Assembly in only five states – Lagos, Delta, Plateau, Oyo, and Nasarawa – currently enjoy a semblance of full financial independence. Twelve others have partial autonomy. They are: Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Enugu, Kogi, Kwara, Bauchi, Ogun, Osun, and Rivers. However, those without any shade of financial autonomy are: Ondo, Katsina, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Ekiti, Abia, and Imo. Others are Bayelsa, Anambra, Ebonyi, Niger, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna states.
Vanguard: The Presidency yesterday disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is working on policies that will strengthen the Naira.
ThisDay: Organised labour, under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), resolved to commence an indefinite strike in Imo State midnight yesterday, to protest alleged violation of workers’ rights as well the recent brutalisation of NLC president, Joe Ajaero, during a protest in the state.
The Nation: The police and Labour are on a collision course in Imo State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. As the police prepare to secure the state before and during the poll, Labour has launched an action plan.
Daily Trust: At least three persons have been killed with several others injured in separate attacks in Kogi and Bayelsa states ahead of the Saturday gubernatorial election. This is also coming on the heels of alleged attacks on the opposition in Imo State where an election is also taking place on Saturday.
