The attacking prowess of the Super Eagles has left Glasgow Rangers forward, Cyriel Dessers stunned as he continues to wait for his return to the team.

Cyriel Dessers who has not been invited to a Nigerian game throughout this year, admitted that the competition in the Super Eagles’ attack made it almost impossible for him to have a place in the team.

After recording four caps for the Super Eagles since he made his international debut on October 13, 2020, at the age of 25, the 28-year-old striker came close to playing for Jose Peseiro once when he was placed on the coach’s standby squad.

Unfortunately, he has failed to make it into Peseiro’s last two squad selections due to the number of more prolific strikers available for the national team.

Note that the Super Eagles currently have strikers like Victor Osimhen of Napoli, Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen, Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest, Paul Onuachu of Trabzonspor, and Ademola Lookman of Atalanta.

Other attacking options that coach Jose Peseiro could pick ahead of Cyriel Dessers are Chuba Akpom of Ajax Amsterdam, Terem Moffi of OGC Nice, and Akor Adams of Montpellier.

Despite being an almost forgotten part of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 AFCON which which will commence in Ivory Coast in January 2024, Dessers who was eligible to play for Belgium, said he doesn’t regret choosing to play for his ancestral home.

“The last few times I was in the Nigeria pre-selection squad, but not in the final selection”, Dessers who has scored five goals for Glasgow Rangers so far this season said, according to Daily Record.

“If you look at the other strikers and the form that are in, I can understand that.

“We have a few players competing to be the third or fourth striker and then it depends on form. The competition in Nigeria is absurd.

“I could have chosen to play for Belgium, but I am very happy with my choice. I have already experienced fantastic moments.

“My first international goal, in front of a hundred thousand spectators against Mexico in Dallas, is a moment I will never forget.”
