Army, DSS Avert Major Boko Haram Attack On Kano State, Recover Weapons (Photos)

An early-morning raid on Friday by a joint team of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) has resulted in the successful prevention of an imminent Boko Haram attack on Kano State.

Naija News gathered that the Boko Haram terrorists had planned an attack on Kano State but the raid by security operatives in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state prevented the imminent attack.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Friday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.

He said the troops swung in and arrested the terrorists who are now in custody before they could attack Kano.

Ajaero: NLC, TUC Issues Fresh Strike Notice, Makes Six Demands From Tinubu

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a fresh strike notice to the Federal Government.

This is coming a few hours after the recent attacks, abduction, and assault on NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and other members of the unions, Naija News understands.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday (today), the leaders of NLC and TUC presented the Federal Government with a six-point demand.

This includes the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, the Area Commander, and other officials who are believed to be involved in the mistreatment and degradation of Comrade Ajaero and fellow workers.

Nigeria Can’t Have Credible Elections With Card-carrying Party Members As INEC Commissioners, RECs – Falana Tells Tinubu

Senior lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has charged President Bola Tinubu to ensure Nigeria has credible elections in 2027.

Speaking on Friday during an appearance on Channels TV, Falana told Tinubu that the shame of bad elections in Nigeria must stop and the buck for the responsibility lies on the President’s table.

The human rights lawyer lamented the situation where card-carrying members of a political party or a loyalist of a party are appointed to be Resident Electoral Commissioners or National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, there is no way INEC can conduct free and fair elections with such appointments.

Fubara: Rivers Political Structure Doesn’t Belong To You – Ijaw Group Fires Wike

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has slammed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his claim that he owns the political structure in Rivers State.

In a statement signed on Friday by its President, Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba, the group posited that the political structure in Rivers should not and cannot be anyone’s personal property, including Wike.

The INC said Wike inherited the political architecture from past governors of the state and should also pass the structure to his successor, stressing that he cannot lay claim to it anymore.

The group stated that the Ijaws would stand for and by one of their own, Governor Siminalayi Fubara because no one has identified a single wrong or crime he has committed against the state.

Aisha Yesufu: APC Alleges Planned Protest In UK Against Tinubu’s Presidency

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that popular activist, Aisha Yesufu, is planning to lead a group in the United Kingdom (UK) to stage a protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday, the Chairman of the UK chapter of the ruling party, Tunde Doherty, described the move as a misadventure.

Doherty, who is also the APC Committee of Diaspora Chairman, said he was prompted to raise the alarm following recent allegations and statements made by the said group led by Yesufu, a staunch supporter of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

According to him, the group is planning to stage a protest in London to propagate their claims about the president’s educational credentials.

Reps Committee Set To Audit Petrol Subsidy Regime

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has announced its plan to conduct a thorough audit of the subsidy system for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Nigeria.

The chairman, Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, reportedly stated this at the committee’s inauguration on Friday in Abuja.

He said the committee’s legislative priorities included ensuring energy security, enhancing professionalism in the petroleum sector and driving economic transformation.

Others, he said, included fostering accountability, institutional reforms, and focusing on revenue recovery and generation.

Kaduna Baptist Student Released After Two Years In Captivity

A kidnapped student of the Bethel Baptist High School, Treasure Ayuba, has been released by bandits.

Naija News reports that Ayuba was part of the students kidnapped by bandits on July 5, 2021, at Maraban Damishi in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Recall that in the early hours of July 5, 2021, bandits invaded the school and kidnapped 121 students to an unknown destination.

However, 120 abducted students of the school were released after ransom payment, but one student, Ayuba, was left with the bandits after a ransom was paid for him too.

Food Crisis: 2.6 Million Nigerians May Go Hungry In 2024 – FAO

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has said that a staggering 2.6 million Nigerians in Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara States, and the FCT could potentially face a severe food crisis between June and August 2024.

This alarming information was revealed by FAO’s country representative, Dominique Kouacou, during the presentation of the October to November round of the Cadre Harmonise food security and early warning analysis in Abuja.

Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, Assistant FAO representative, Programme, represented Kouacou during the announcement, highlighting the significance of this analysis, which was conducted in 26 states and the FCT.

The assessment aimed to gauge the food security situation and make projections for the future.

Bayelsa Poll: Court Hears Suit To Stop Governor Diri From Running For Second Term

A Federal High Court, Abuja is set to hear a fresh suit seeking the disqualification of Governor Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The suit, presently before Justice Emeka Nwite, seeks an order of mandatory injunction, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the names of Diri and Ewhrudjakpo as People Democratic Party’s candidates in the Nov. 11 poll.

It also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC, its agents, privies or whosoever called, from further publishing their names as standard bearers for the party in the forthcoming election in Bayelsa.

The suit, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1448/23 and filed by a Bayelsan woman, Blessing Clement Azibanagbal, through her lawyer, Ifeanyi Nsowu, further sought a declaration that Ewhrudjakpo was not qualified to run as deputy governor under the PDP.

Canada has revealed the Immigration Levels Plan, as the country looks forward to admitting more new immigrants in 2024, outlining the specific number of new permanent residents expected to be relocated to the North American country over the next three years.

In 2024, Canada’s immigration levels will remain consistent with its current targets, aiming to admit 485,000 new immigrants.

Similarly, in 2025 and 2026, the country will seek to welcome 500,000 new immigrants annually.
