Ajaero’s Attack Was State-sponsored terrorism - Organised Labour

The camp of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has frowned at the arrest and torture of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Naija News recalls that NLC, on Wednesday, had organized a protest rally in Owerri, over the alleged insensitivity of the state government over the worker’s plight in the state.

Moments before the commencement of the protest, some thugs attacked him and inflicted body injuries on him alongside some union leaders. After the attack, police operatives whisked him away to their facility and reportedly put him in protective custody.

The leadership of the NLC had accused the Imo government of being behind the attack, which it claimed was supervised by the state Commissioner of Police.

However, the Imo government has denied being responsible for the arrest and attack on the NLC President.

Reacting in a post via his official X handle on Thursday, the spokesman of the LP Presidential Campaign Council (LP PCC), Yunusa Tanko, said the brutalisation of Ajaero is highly condemnable.

Tanko asserted that the arrest and torture of the NLC President have reached a level of impunity that is reaching a boiling point.

He wrote: “This is our comrade, the President of the workers in Nigeria heavily and dastardly bruterlised by one Governor under the watchful eyes of the President of the country from the same political party. The level of impunity is reaching a boiling point. We say NO NO NO.”
