Delta Senators Who Won At Tribunal And Appeal Court

The recent judgment of the Appeal court favoured Senators Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Senator Ede Dafinone, as well as Honourable Francis Waive, declaring them victorious in their elections.

In a dramatic twist of fate, Delta’s political landscape witnessed a seismic shift as the Appeal Court handed down its verdict, reshuffling the deck of triumphant senators and lawmakers.

Some accepted their fates with grace, while others chose to take the judicial path in pursuit of a different outcome.

The recent judgment, a political rollercoaster, has seen three Delta senators and a member of the House of Representatives emerge victorious in their legal battles.

1. Senator Ned Nwoko: Delta North Senatorial District

Delta’s political maestro, Senator Ned Nwoko, found himself in the eye of the storm. The National and State Houses of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State, upheld his victory as the lawful winner of the Delta North Senatorial Election held on February 25, 2023. The tribunal, led by Justice Catherine Ogunsola, dismissed the petition filed by Ken Kanmma of the Labour Party (LP) for lack of merit. Senator Ned Nwoko’s political prowess remains unchallenged.

2. Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas: Delta South Senatorial District

Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, the representative of Delta South Senatorial District, emerged victorious at the Court of Appeal, Asaba division. The appellate court’s judgment, issued on November 1, overturned the decision of the National and State Houses of Assembly election petitions tribunal, confirming Senator Onowakpo as the rightful winner of the February 25 Delta South Senatorial District election. Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, presiding over the case, declared the issues raised by Senator Thomas in his appeal as meritorious and set aside the earlier tribunal judgment.

3. Senator Ede Dafinone: Delta North, South, and Central Senatorial Districts

In a unanimous judgment delivered on November 1, the Court of Appeal, Lagos division, dismissed the ruling of the National Assembly Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, affirming Senator Ede Dafinone’s electoral victory. Representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Dafinone’s appeal prevailed as the court also rejected the cross-appeal filed by his opponent, Chief Ighoyota Amori of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The senator’s victory extends across Delta’s North, South, and Central senatorial districts.

4. Honourable Francis Waive: Udu/Ughelli North/South Federal Constituency

Honourable Francis Ejiroghene Waive clinched a significant win at the appellate court on November 1. The Court of Appeal, Lagos division, overturned the decision of the National Assembly Elections Tribunal Asaba, declaring Waive as the duly elected member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in Delta state.

This legal saga has not only reshaped Delta’s political map but also underscored the resilience of these victorious senators and lawmakers in defending their mandates. Their triumphs reflect the ever-evolving dynamics of the state’s political landscape, making Delta a hotbed of intrigue and legal battles.
