Appeal Court Affirms APC’s Isah Jibrin As Kogi East Senator

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jibrin Isah, has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal as the duly elected senator for Kogi East.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Isah the winner of the Kogi East Senatorial District election, but the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was second in the election, Victor Adoji, had challenged the return of Isah at the tribunal on the ground that elections were cancelled in some polling units.

Adoji implored the tribunal to invalidate Isah’s victory and mandate a supplementary election in the 94 polling units that were affected in the senatorial district.

In a unanimous ruling, the tribunal, presided over by Justice K.A. Orjiako, directed a rerun in the 94 polling units where irregularities occurred during the previous general election.

Nevertheless, Isah lodged an appeal challenging the verdict of the lower court.

On Thursday, the Court of Appeal overturned the tribunal’s ruling, thereby upholding the appellant’s triumph.

Tinubu Speaks On Conduct Of Imo, Bayelsa, Kogi Governorship Elections

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has called for the conduct of free, fair and peaceful governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States.

The President made this known on Thursday while presenting flags to governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja.

Ahead of the November 11 governorship elections in the three states, President Timubu called on politicians and other stakeholders to ensure peaceful and credible polls.

The President presented flags to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who is seeking a second term; former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, who wants to return as Bayelsa governor, and Usman Ododo, who is seeking to become the Kogi governor.
