Nigerian singing sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, had the rare privilege of performing at the biggest award show in football, the 2023 Ballon d’Or, and as expected, he didn’t disappoint.

In the presence of some of the finest footballers in the world, including the record eight-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi, the second runner-up of the 2023 edition of the award, Erling Haaland, and the third runner-up Kylian Mbappe, Rema wowed the crowd with his international hit song, “Calm Down”.

The 23-year-old singing sensation, who was born in Benin City, Edo State, was in a stunning all-black outfit alongside two female dances who moved to the rhythmic song throughout the over three minutes performance.

The highly confident performer decided to take full advantage of the rare opportunity by taking a walk down the stage to the front row of the 2,500-capacity Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and shook hands with some of the biggest stars in the game.

Even big names like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland didn’t hesitate to extend their hands to Rema who wasn’t carried away with the array of super football stars in front of him.

As expected, Rema was not star-struck as he maintained his composure while he walked back to the stage to give a beautiful ending to his performance and got a rousing applause from the star-studded crowd.

During Rema’s performance, famous American YouTuber, IShowSpeed, who was at the event, couldn’t help but bounce to the rhythm of the song throughout the performance.

After being the first Nigerian musician to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or, Rema took to his Instagram page to share the video of the performance and used the caption to express his appreciation for the opportunity.

He wrote: “Afrobeat in Ballon d’Or, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity. Glory to the most high for the grace.”
