'Complete Despondency' - Peter Obi Reacts To Properties Demolitions In Lagos, Others

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed sadness over the death of the foremost constitutional lawyer, Professor Ben Nwabueze.

Obi in a condolence message on Tuesday, in which he reacted to the death of the former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide described the late Nwabueze as a father figure.

It would be recalled that Nwabueze died on Sunday evening in his house at the age of 91.

Mourning his death, Obi said the death of the elder statesman has caused him an irreplaceable loss.

The former Anambra State Governor recalled the support and guidance he got from Nwabueze in his political journey and prayed that God would console the family left behind and all who mourn him.

I am saddened by the death of a very revered Nigerian and a respected father figure, foremost patriot, constitutional lawyer, and erstwhile Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN.

“Prof Ben Nwabueze was a seasoned academician, thoroughbred administrator, and experienced politician. An uncommon jurist and scholar, Prof Nwabueze was Nigeria’s first academic Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

“He was also the former Minister of Education and Youth Development. As a father figure whose desire for a great Nigeria was well known, he remained supportive of me in my political journey.

“Throughout my years as the Governor of Anambra State, his wise counsel and guidance added to the success that my administration achieved in the State. Even after leaving office, I continued to enjoy his cordial relationship and wise counsel.

“I remember in 2019 when I was the Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP, he headed our legal team at the Presidential Election Tribunal, despite his health challenges. He was a man who desired justice, peace, and progress in our country.

“While I mourn his irreplaceable loss, I am comforted by his immense contribution to our nation, especially in the areas of education and legal practice, especially his specialization in constitutional law.

“May God comfort the entire Nwabueze family and all of us who mourn him, and grant him eternal rest,” Obi wrote in a personally signed statement via his account on the X platform.
