The proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lagos were abruptly halted on Monday after the unfortunate demise of Hon. Justice Fatun Odohi Riman, a colleague of the judges, was confirmed to the legal practitioners.

Naija News understands that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Tsoho, announced to all judges of the court about the death of Justice Riman, who was a member of the Awka division.

In a notice dated Oct. 28, Justice Tsoho revealed that Justice Riman passed away in England in the early hours of Oct. 28. The late judge had been admitted to a hospital in England before his demise.

The notice said the family of the deceased would communicate further information about the burial.

As a result of the notice, some judges of the Lagos division had to adjourn their cases to later dates.

Prof Ben Nwabueze Is Dead

Meanwhile, constitutional lawyer, Prof Ben Nwabueze, has died, Naija News learnt.

Nwabueze had died on Sunday evening in his home at the age of 91, Vanguard quoted sources close to the deceased as saying.

Born in 1931 in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nwabueze was the secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Speaking on the death of the senior advocate of Nigeria, the vice-president, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Damian Okeke-Ogene, said, “It is a great loss both to Nigeria and the Igbo nation. He was a very decent constitutional lawyer and minister par excellence. He was known for being vocal and ensuring an anti-corrupt system.

“Indeed, the evolution of the entire legal system in Nigeria would not be complete without mentioning his invaluable contributions.”
