Imam, Another Killed As Bandits Attack Kaduna Mosque
A mosque located at Sabon Layi, Kakangi Ward, in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was reportedly attacked on Tuesday by armed bandits.
An Imam and another worshipper were reportedly killed in the attack. Naija News learnt that numerous other worshippers sustained injuries during the assault in the Ga Allah Babba area of the Sabon Layi community.
The Kaduna State Police Command, however, had not yet issued a response to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Vanguard, however, quoted a source to have confirmed the victims as; the mosque’s Imam, Malam Mamuda, and a worshipper named Kabiru. He said the bandits indiscriminately fired upon the congregation. Additionally, Bilya Mairabo and Ashiru Mairabo were among those injured in the attack.
Another source who spoke anonymously revealed that the bandits emerged from the Kamuku Forest while wearing security uniforms and were en route to the Tegina axis of Niger State.
“They arrived during the morning prayer and entered the mosque, opening fire on the worshippers, killing our Imam and one other person. Two other individuals sustained gunshot wounds,” he reported.
Confirming the attack in a statement made available to journalists yesterday, the Chairman of Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Maigwari, explained that “Almost on a daily basis, terrorists are on patrol across the entire Birnin-Gwari local government area, killing and abducting innocent citizens.
“The situation is more worrisome on Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway and has become a nightmare for travellers.”
