Strong And Timely: Bashir Ahmad Reacts As Kano Governor Sacks Commissioner Who Threatened Tribunal Judges

Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to erstwhile president Muhammadu Buhari, has claimed that engineering and project management company, Process & Industrial Developments (P&ID) Limited paid huge amount of money to media companies in Nigeria while trying to scam the country.

Recall that the Business and Property Court in London on Monday halted the enforcement of the $11bn arbitration award in favour of P&ID against Nigeria.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Robert Knowles, it was held that the process through which P&ID secured a 2010 contract to build a gas processing plant in Calabar, Cross River State, was fraudulent

Over the years, Nigeria has been involved in a fight with Process & Industrial since the company accused the Nigerian government of botching a deal by failing to provide gas to them.

In its claims, P&ID said Nigeria violated the terms of its agreement by failing to provide gas for the power plant it wants to build for the country.

The government of Former president Goodluck Jonathan reached an out-of-tribunal agreement for the payment of $850 million and passed on disbursement to the administration of President Buhari.

However, Buhari baulked at the idea of paying the negotiated sum, set aside the settlement agreement, and challenged the enforcement of the award before the English Commercial Court.

In the final verdict, Justice Knowles ruled in favour of Nigeria, and the award which was initially in favour of P&ID was stopped.

Speaking on the development via his X account, Ahmad alleged that the company paid huge sums of money to some media outlets in Nigeria and abroad in a bid to scam the country of more than eleven billion dollars.

He wrote, “P&ID faithfully paid huge amounts of money to some media outlets in Nigeria and abroad, and other actors to just scam Nigeria of over $11,500,000,000.00, that’s a whopping eleven and a half billion dollars.”
