Jennifer Mendelewitsch, the agent of Ghanian midfielder, Mohammed Kudus, has revealed that his client was very close to joining Chelsea but the deal collapsed due to the club’s offer.

Mohammed Kudus was in outstanding form at Ajax between 2020 and 2023, a period in which he scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 87 games in all competitions.

Due to how good he is as an attacking midfielder, the 23-year-old Ghana international attracted the attention of top European clubs, especially in last summer’s transfer window.

In the last window, Mohammed Kudus was heavily linked to Chelsea who were looking forward to reinforcing their midfield but the deal failed to scale through.

Kudus ended up joining West Ham United for a transfer fee worth €43 million on August 27, 2023. Since then, he has scored 6 goals and provided one assist in 11 games in all competitions for West Ham.

No Chelsea’s new midfielder including Moisés Caicedo who the Blues paid a Premier League record €116 million for has performed as well as Kudus so far this season.

In an interview with RMC Sport, Mohammed Kudus’s agent explained how the Ghanaian transfer to Chelsea failed. The agent said: “We agreed on a contract with Chelsea but the deal didn’t happen”.

“Kudus talked with the coach but in the end, it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.”

The agent added: “There was no counter-offer. Chelsea did this to lots of players this summer”.

“They did with very low offers knowing they wouldn’t be accepted. The truth is that they were completely taken by the transfer of Caicedo.”
