The Super Eagles of Nigeria have launched the “Let’s Do It Again” mantra as they seek to win their first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) since 2013.

The last time the Super Eagles won the African championship was in South Africa ten years ago, and they are aiming to “do it again again” in the 2023 edition of the tournament in Ivory Coast between January and February 2024.

The Eagles claimed to have chosen the slogan “Let’s Do It Again” as their rallying cry in their quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations victory.

Later today, October 12, the Super Eagles will know the teams they will play against in the forthcoming AFCON, as the draw is expected to take place later tonight.

The Super Eagles won the AFCON for the first time on home soil in 1980. They then won it in Tunisia in 1994 and won it for the last time in South Africa in 2013.

According to the Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, both the players and officials have taken to the new mantra like bees to honey.

“We like the phrase because it gives us confidence and the go-go push. We have done it before, so, we can do it again,” Troost-Ekong said.

“Winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast is our goal, and we have the team to do just that.”

One of the team’s veteran defenders, Kenneth Omeruo, added, “I look around and I see players who can make it happen. We are all ambitious. The team is a blend of old and wise heads and exciting new talents. We will go for the trophy in Ivory Coast.”

The majority of the team that defeated Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their previous match will take to the field in a friendly game against Saudi Arabia at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao in Portugal.

The match will mark the second senior international meeting between the two nations. Saudi Arabia last played against the Super Eagles in a friendly game on May 25, 2010, which ended in a goalless draw.
