17-year-old Buries Younger Brother Alive In Kogi For Stealing N1,000 - Police React

One Goodness Oshodi, 17, has been arrested for allegedly burying his younger brother, Friday Oshodi, alive in Kogi State.

Naija News learnt that the incident happened on Wednesday in the Apamsede area, a suburb of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

It was gathered that Friday had stolen ₦1,000, hence his elder brother decided to punish him on their mother’s instruction.

According to the Daily Post, a resident confirmed that Friday is well known in the area for stealing, adding that, to checkmate his criminal act, his mother asked his elder brother, Goodness to punish him.

They added that rather than giving Friday tolerable punishment, Goodness led him to a nearby bush and buried him alive.

Luck, however, ran out of Goodness as some vigilante members in the area caught him while burning his younger brother. The security men reportedly exhumed Friday’s body alive and reported the case to the police.

Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP. William Ovie Aya, on Wednesday afternoon, said the Police had arrested Goodness, stressing that the Command had commenced an investigation into the case.

“The suspect has been arrested and taken into custody. The victim is seven years old. Information at our disposal revealed that the victim used to steal. When he stole money, he ran away from the house, but later came back.

“When he came back, he stole another money again. So, the mother instructed his elder brother, who is a 17-year-old boy, to punish him. So, the brother went ahead to dig the ground to punish him. So, they just want to deal with him, before some nearby neighbours discover what was happening and rescue him,” Ovie Aya told journalists on Wednesday.
