Mohbad: Creative Industry Needs Its Own NAFDAC, SON – Kenny St Brown [Video]

Former gospel singer Kenny St. Brown has advocated for the establishment of a regulatory body to safeguard artists in the Nigerian creative industry.

Naija News reports that the call by Kenny comes as the music industry is still aggrieved over the sudden and shocking death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Following the controversial death of Mohbad, many have called for the arrest and prosecution of his former Marlian label boss, Naira Marley.

Naira Marley has continuously denied the allegations levelled against him, maintaining he had no hand in the singer’s death.

He left Marlian Records on a controversial note in 2022 but still had issues with some of Naira Marley’s loyalists after his departure.

Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Kenny St. Brown pointed out that the creation of a regulatory body would help in solving disputes between a record label and its signee.

“What we’re witnessing now is the consequence of the absence of a system meant to prevent the exploitation and cheating of artists,” she said.

According to her, if the pharmaceutical industry can have the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the manufacturing industry can have the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the creative sector should not be left out.
