LP Crisis: Abure Used Party's Name To Raise Campaign Funds In US - Suspended Treasurer

The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure has declared that the party won the 2023 governorship election in Delta State but some undemocratic elements conspired to take the victory from the party.

Apart from Delta State, Abure submitted that the Labour Party also won in several other states but was denied victory.

The LP Chairman made the submission on Thursday while reacting to the decision of the Appeal Court as it concerns the suit filed by the party’s governorship candidate as regards the outcome of the 2023 governorship polls in Delta State.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the Court of Appeal on Thursday granted the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Ken Pela approval to return to the Delta State Election Tribunal to continue his petition challenging the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Delta State Election Tribunal had earlier dismissed LP’s petition against Governor Sheriff on the ground that he abandoned his pre-hearing.

However, Pela took the matter to the Court Of Appeal in Abuja where he contested the decision of the election tribunal.

The Judges at the Appeal Court Abuja disagreed with the judgment of the Delta State Governorship Election Tribunal and overturned the judgement.

Reacting to the development, Abure in a statement by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh did the right thing and the party is happy.

He chided the tribunal for throwing out the party’s case in the first place.

Abure submitted that Labour Party won the Delta governorship election and many others in the 2023 elections but the party was only cheated out of its victory.

“We are pleased with the position of the Appeal Court today.

“We were shocked at the decision of the tribunal to prematurely stifle our matter.

“We were not even allowed to present our matter. Justice was not served, and that made us approach the appellate court, requesting that it review the case which the tribunal had rejected.

“Labour Party won the governorship election in Delta State and like in most other states, some undemocratic elements conspired to snatch the state from us and they went ahead to use the tribunal to stop us from proving that we won,” the statement read in part.
